Description

IC63 - 'The Ghost of Cassiopeia'...my first attempt, requiring almost 12hrs of exposure time under an almost new moon. Taken from Bortle 6 skies in 'above average' seeing, and average 'transparency'.
----------------
'The Ghost of Cassiopeia', officially known as IC 63, and the star Navi, (aka Gamma Cassiopeiae), is located 550 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia the Queen. Navi is the central star in the 'W' asterism of Cassiopeia, which unleashes as much energy as 34,000 suns. IC63 (the ghost part of the nebula) and IC59, the adjacent nebula, are faint reflection and emission nebulae roughly 3 light-years from Navi, although IC63 is slightly closer to the star.
