Description

I have been individually imaged a number of these targets over the past past few weeks, but I wanted to put them all together in one panoramic shot.  It turns out that unplanned mosaic ends up being quite wasteful in overlaps, with lots of panels oriented differently and lots of annoying little gaps to fill.

So the resulting image (bin x 2 so its easier to display) was observed in the most efficient manner, with over 20 panes each comprising 40 x 300 sec exposures at least.  On average, each pixel was covered by 1.4 panes, so the resulting image is quite deep.

To give a sense of scale and an sense of fun, I also include a composite of part this image superposed on the sky as it would look at 7pm tonight.  The head of the Scorpion makes for a magnificent site it is rises over the mountains behind my observatory (Mt Difficulty in the background and Nevis Bluff in the foreground), with the rig used to capture the image out in front of the observatory.
