Description

M 33 in Triangulum is a glorious galaxy 2.7 million light-years distant, about the same distance as the much larger Andromeda Galaxy, M31. It may be a satellite of M 31 which it is moving toward.

It was probably discovered in the early 1650s by the Italian astronomer Giovanil Battista Hodierna then rediscovered in 1764 by the French astronomer Charles Messier in his relentless hunt for permanent objects not to be mistaken for comets. At 60,000 light-years across, with an estimated 40 billion stars, M 33 is about 60% the size of the Milky Way.

All frames 300 sec, with 37 Lum, 21 Red, 26 Green and 25 Blue.
