Description

NGC 2301 is an open cluster in the constellation Monoceros,  discovered by William Herschel in 1786.
It has magnitude 6.0, diameter 12' and an estimate distance 2400 light years.
The brightest star of the cluster is an orange star, but it is possible that it is a foreground star; the cluster contains also blue giants.
It is a nice cluster but it is rarely imaged.
Seeing was not optimal during the shoots so stars are a little bigger than they should be, but considering the type of object I think it is acceptable.
