Description

Rosette nebula (Caldwell 49) is a large emission nebula locates in the Constellation of Monoceros, with an open cluster (NGC 2244) nested in. Resembling a blooming rose in the dark sky, this is a popular target especially in this time of the year.

This is a 3x1 Mosaic project spanned across three months, from late Oct.2021 to end of Jan.2022, with an ambition to go deep. Ample amount of narrowband data was collected and blended into the LRGB main-body to boost up color and structure, to create a violet tone of the core, and to introduce a hint of gold/orange near the petals where S-ii signal dominates. The core of the rose appears a bit "busy" due to the heavy touch on the narrowband data, however I think I am content with the level of dynamic.

The framing also aims to highlight a streak of extended Hydrogen gas, resembling the "stem" of the rose, to complete this romantic gift from above. A few "coincidental catches" towards the bottom of the frame around the "stem", such as reflective nebula IC 448 & cluster NGC 2236, making this a lively field-of-view. Just to the right of IC 448 I noticed a faint bubble in O-iii data that got me excited; turns out it is (of course) StDr13, a planetary nebula discover by Marcel & Xavier in 2019.
