Description

This is first light with a brand new Askar FMA 180. It was a hastily taken shot, under quite bad conditions (including haze and smoke).

The system has some backfocus issues it seems, but overall it turned out quite nice, even though it has a bit more CA than I expected for an APO triplet.

About M24 itself, it's a bright patch of the milky way that looks like a cluster but is instead just a tunnel among the dark dust, visible around M24 in the shot. The stars that would be attenuated by dust are instead brightly visible, causing this pseudo-cluster effect.

Near the edge, barely in the frame, we have the Omega (or Swan) nebula photobombing.

I was limited to 8s shots under my sky conditions. II expect this lens would perform considerably better on dark skies where longer exposures become viable.
