Description

This is Stephenson 1, an open star cluster in the constellation Lyra. The bright star at center is Delta Lyrae. It's not a member of the star cluster, but its red hue and conspicuousness make for a fine contrast with Stephenson 1. As for Stephenson 1, it consists of 33 stars, is about 1,220 lightyears away from us, and is estimated to be 49 million years old. Also interesting is the color contrast between Delta Lyrae (type M4, magnitude 4.3) and HIP 92728 (type B2, magnitude 5.55) located at around 2 o'clock relative to Delta Lyrae.
