Description

Wolf-Rayet stars are highly energetic, extremely hot stars with an intense stellar wind. The stellar wind is so strong it pushes out on the surrounding interstellar hydrogen gas creating a bubble around itself. The intense ultraviolet light from the star ionizes the oxygen atoms in the bubble causing them to emit light in the characteristic blue-green color of the O-iii band. This WR star is also apparently moving through space from left to right in this image, creating the bow shock on the right hand side.
