Description

Hidden away in the Cygnus Star Cloud, The Tulip Nebula, also known as Sharpless 101 (Sh2-101), is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus.  It's name is derived from the outline of a tulip that appears when it's photographed.  The nebula is about 6,000 light years from Earth and is 70 light years wide. It's a glowing cloud of interstellar gas and dust. The nebula glows because of young stars ionizing this cosmic gas.

I acquired this image from my driveway over four nights in August 2023 using a Skywatcher 120ED telescope, ZWO ASI2600MC camera, Skywatcher EQ6r Pro equitorial mount, and a slew of misc pieces of support gear.

This photograph consists of 278 4 minute exposures.  That's an integrated exposure time of 18.53 hours. These were acquired using APT. They were manually processed using Pixinsight.
