Description

IC1318b + IC1318c (Cyg) - Butterfly Nebula

IC1318, also referred to as the γ-Cygni Nebula or the Butterfly Nebula, is an emission nebula and H-II region in the constellation Cygnus. The nebula is located approximately 5000 light-years from Earth and has an extent of 100 light-years. At the center of the nebula lies the star Sadr, 1500 light years away. Sadr is slightly to the right of this image.

IC1318 consists of three parts IC1318a, IC1318b and IC1318c, which are clearly separated from each other. In my image you can see IC1318b (left) and IC1318c (right) - they are separated by the 20 light-year wide dark cloud LDN889.
