Description

The Iris Nebula (NGC 7023) is a bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. Differently from ionized gas clouds which can be photographed with specific narrow band filters, a reflection nebula is a cloud of dust which is illuminated by a nearby bright star. The star energy is not sufficient to ionize the gas and create an emission nebula.
