Description

This field around Alnair in Grus contains 538 PGC Galaxies with the NGC 7293 Galaxy Group center top and the brightest galaxy IC 5201 magnitude 10.8 and about 8.5′ × 3.9′ arcminutes in size on the left.

It was taken with RedCat 71 on an AM 5  strain-wave gear mount with a ASI2600MM Pro (Mono) camera and Antlia RGB Pro filters.
I must say the AM5 polar alignment is pretty good. I don't have a permanent spot for it (yet) so being able to drop it in my back yard and get PA down to less than 1 arcminute in around 10 minutes is pretty handy! Sadly now we have daylight saving  the milky way is dropping too soon but in a month  of so Orion will be up. Alas my North aspect is blocked by trees  so no Virgo,  but I have a good east west traverse through the Zenith so Grus was perfectly placed and I was able to get two good runs through the meridian for this field.

Having finally retired at 70, if I can find a decent place NOT on a flood plain, NOT in a valley and NOT surrounded by flammable eucalypt trees, I might summon the energy to move further West next year to expand my horizons :-) but for the moment Hawkesbury Heights can be pretty good apart from occassional neigbours lights and passing cars out front lighting up the trees.
And for THAT GraXpert was created for which I am eternally grateful as I am for all the amazing new tools and improvments in Pixinsight over the last year.
