This radiant glow is a result of the ionization of hydrogen atoms, which emit light when they revert to a lower energy state. The Fish Head Nebula is not just a standalone structure; it is an integral extension of the Heart Nebula and is situated close to another notable star-forming region, the Soul Nebula (IC 1848).
