Description

IC 1396A "Elephant Trunk"
This is a cropped image of the “Elephant Trunk Nebula”, IC 1396A, taken with a C-11 SCT. The object is a dense, elongated cloud of gas near a bright cluster of stars known as IC 1396 in the northern constellation Cepheus which is blocked from view by trees at my house in LA. The trunk conceals many young protostars that are in the process of forming. The photo was taken by James Foster from his house with my (black tube) Celestron 11-inch SC telescope with post- processing by me.
