      Description

Okay, I can’t find any catalog that actually lists RCW 53C, but I’ve seen it used for images whose main subject was this structure. Probably some astrophotographer invented this name and it seems to have stuck. On the southwest corner of the Carina Nebula floats a wave like structure of dense, glowing gas and dust. Most other images I could find that contain these waves, show dense clouds of gas with just a hint of structure. But as I studied the data, it seemed to me there was some more defined structures within it. With some careful adjustments to contrast and sharpness, I believe I've been able to reveal dense columns of dust wrapped in glowing gas in two peaks in the middle of the frame. Like specters shrouded in fog, these columns are only dimly visible. In any case, a pretty rarely displayed, but interesting subject. Displayed in a modified Hubble Palette.
