Description

This is Falls 2, a new planetary nebula discovery in northern cygnus, located on the pink crosshair in this photoegg.JPG

Falls 2 is very very faint. I tried to capture a high-resolution image of it at f/9 and could barely resolve anything. I had to settle on using 70hrs of data from my fsq106 image to blend into the high-resolution image in order to see anything at all. This nebula is much brighter in Oiii, and although Cygnus has a reputation for being bright in Ha the Ha is incredibly faint.

At the center of this object is the hot subdwarf star KPD 2045+5136. At its measured temperature of 9586K, it shouldn't be hot enough to form a PN, so I am assuming its temperature info is wrong. The nebula is about 3,500 light years from earth, calculated from the GAIA DR3 parallax measurement.

The name 'cosmic egg' was determined by crowd-sourcing a name from people on social media. Many variations of 'egg' were suggested, but this one was a mythology reference to a common theme known as the world egg so I decided this one would do.

For those interested, I am launching an advanced image processing guide on my website in a few days. More info soon!
