Description

A seldom imaged target in the constellation Cassiopeia. This one was a very challenging project. There are very few reference images to be found.

A predominately HA region with low surface brightness surrounded by a dark dust band. It being so faint required multiple long exposure images to capture any detail. The nebula contains predominately HA and slight SII emissions. Processing was a test of skill as these emissions are both red. The best colour mapping was assigning a SHS palette. This produced a nice aqua and highlighted the dark dust.

SH2-163 is approximately 12,500 light years away from Earth.
