Description

SEVENTY-FIVE HOURS
Yes, you read that correctly. Seventy five hours total exposure time. Captured from my backyard under Bortle 6 skies. This project has been sitting there on my hard drive… TAUNTING me! The project folder occupied roughly 800GB of storage from a combination of calibrated, registered, normalized scale gradient, and debayered files. I’m so happy I’m done with this… ok.. so let’s talk about the details..

Boy this thing is massive and DIM. Even with a 2 panel mosaic, captured at 390mm, and paired with an ASI2600mm, this STILL barely fit into the overall framing. I started working on this at the beginning of January with my 2xED80 scopes. One scope focused on OIII and the other focused on HA. After I collected about 30 hours each panel with those filters, I spent another 15ish hours collecting RGB data. I used a combination of 60s, 300s, and 600s sub exposures. I had to crop the framing a bit for every set of data to match and stitch together. But I still kept the entire bubble in frame which I was quite pleased about. Post was not too terrible. I thought about pushing the data pretty hard to make the structure pop more but I also didn’t want to be aggressive with noise reduction and I really like the fine details here so I kept it tame and I like the result.

I’m so glad to have this one checked off my list. Now on to the next one!
