Description

The Heart and Soul nebulae form a vast star-forming complex in the constellation of Cassiopeia, spanning over 580 light-years across, and located at a distance of about 6,000 - 7500 light years from home. Both the Heart -IC1805- and the Soul -IC1848- are rich in massive young stars that blow intense radiation, helping them emit strongly in several wavelengths, especially in Ha. The core of the Heart Nebula is a cluster of young stars, some as massive as 50 times our own sun, known as Melotte 15 and is commonly imaged just by itself.

The field of view also includes other nebulae such as the "fish head", adjacent to the Heart; as well as smaller and dimmer objects from the Sharpless catalog
