Description

Rainbow Valley, Río Grande, Comune of San Pedro de Atacama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, northern Chile. The valley, located 3,500 metres (11,500 ft) over the sea level, is difficult to access but still has become popular due to the explosion of colors in its hills that gave it its name

Valle del Arcoiris was formed by a mix of different types volcanic activity as well as rock layers being deposited, 
creating large blocks of different colours. A region of cooler magma that never erupted but solidified underground,
 then later pushed up to the surface and exposed as a large hill or block of differing colour to the surrounding rocks.
Many different geological processes contributed to form the Valle del Arcoiris, but the end result seen today is dramatic.
