Description

I have been working on M101 field for the last years, waiting to achive enough data. Then, when I got all the subs I needed, a bueatiful surprise happened. On the 19th of May Koichi Itagaki discovered a type II supernova in one of external arms in M101, named SN2023ixf. The 22nd of May weather was good enough to acquire some picture from my site. That night the supernova reached magnitude 11.4 (according to comparison of its flux with near stars in the same field), getting quite bright for my setup and becoming visible to my eye with a C8 SC telescope.
We usually see Universe as fixed because our life are too short in comparison to its timescale, so it'always fascinating when something change!

Main image is a blend of past 108 pictures (taken between 2022 spring and April 2023) and a set of pictures taken the 22nd of May 2023, showing SN2023ixf supernova. In the annoteted version I added two zoomed view of the spiral arm in which the supernova appeared, using only either the past or the new images. Each of the zoomed views is in fact an independent subset of the overall image.
