Description

Sh 2-261 is a HII region in the northern part os the constellation Orion. It is often called Lower's nebula because it appears on a photographic plate taken by the Harold and Charles Lower in 1939. The distance of this nebula is not known with certainty, but estimated to be about 3000 light years away.

When photographed in RGB, the Ha region can be seen nicely, but it does not show too many details, as it is a rather faint nebula. On the other hand, with ultra-narrowband filters, the details are very nice with all three filters, giving you the opportunity to make very spectacular HOO and SHO false color photos. But we can use it in combination with RGB to highlight its colours better.
