Description

The Northern Lagoon Nebula

Looks like a ball of fire to me (or ice and fire) in this presentation, hence the title

I have done this before when using my DSLR. Didn't get any of the associated outer nebulosity and dust clouds so pleased to get this, this time round

The main issue with this pic was in the processing following fairly bloaty stars (guiding wasnt always brilliant and collimation wasnt spot on perhaps)

When i ran starnet ++ i was left with really bad artefacts i am guessing where the stars were blurred due to poor guiding ... so started cleaning things up with the clone stamp in photo shop , to do a decent job would have taken me hours and hours. I eventually came up a way of selecting the artefacts reliably and so could fix with content aware fill which worked quite well.

Total usable capture time was

Ha 72 x 300s
Sii 42 x 300s
Oiii 48 x 300s
= 13.5 hours

Taken over five nights between the 10 October and 4th November

The weather here for last two weeks has been mild but cloudy so not got any imaging time in since then. The cloudy weather is to continue for at least the next week so this will be my last image for a while unless i use the points i have got saved up on itelescope!
