Description

This image was a challenge since the beginning for multiple reasons: (1) this object has a low surface brightness which made it tough to image from my Bortle 7, highly obstructed backyard. (2) I had problems with the autoguider focus point. That required me to tear down my imaging train several times in order to "redistribute" the spacers.  Sometimes I could not achieve the right rotation manually therefore I had to crop the result significantly.

On top of that, the OIII signal practically canceled the Ha signal. This frustrated me a lot until I understood the reason why this happened. It turns out that for the OIII frames I used a gain of 300 while half of the Ha frames were taken with a gain of 200. The positive thing is that this "experiment" allowed me to confirm that probably I am better off using a high gain when I am imaging narrowband objects with low surface brightness. I also learned that I cannot assume that the Ha's signal is always so strong.

Here is my humble result. It is not an image worthy of an award, but given the effort, time and learning invested, it is worth the same or more to me than if it was.

As always comments and constructive feedback are welcome.

Clear skies to everyone!
Wanda
