Description

This is my first time imaging Jupiter this season. I imaged Saturn (at opposition) earlier in the night and waited for Jupiter to clear the trees. I used a new telescope for this and it was my first time imaging with it. It is a Obsession 20" F/5 Dobsonian reflector (made in 2002). I had some challenges to overcome and definitely think I will be able to improve on this with such a large telescope. I didn't have enough "in-travel" on the focuser with the full imaging train, so had to shorten things up a bit. I think I can move the primary mirror closer to the secondary mirror to gain a bit of room to focus with full imaging train. We still had smoke in the sky an the seeing was poor and it was quite windy, which made the telescope vibrate quite a bit. But I did manage to get a half-way decent image. The large size of the telescope should allow me to get better results in better conditions. Also, I never used my atmospheric dispersion corrector on this type of telescope and got the horizontal reference wrong, so the color balance is significantly off, but I think better than what I got with Saturn.
