Description

I find it so amusing that we can find all sorts of figures in the universe. Just like we did as kids when looking up and identifying exciting figures on clouds, I find it so cool that the sign we use to represent love can be found in the sky. I chose this target to celebrate Valentine's day that's happening in 10 days from now. This is probably the most difficult image I've ever taken: it is the first try with my GSO 6" telescope, being carried on the same EQ3-2 mount as always.

This was only possible as I got to work with guiding at least than 1" of error, making sure to try my best at focusing (and trying to collimate this thing without any lasers or webcams with lenses, only by centering and defocusing a bright star... not precise, but it was the best I could do with my current setup). I got this GSO 2" coma corrector too, but I've been struggling to find the correct backfocus distance- it doesn't work correctly with the mentioned 75mm backfocus. Soon this variable backfocus extender ring shall arrive, so I'll be able to use the entire field without having to deal with a bunch of not only induced coma, but a great problem with trying to get a decent focus. I've also made another DIY autofocuser, but now with a NEMA17 motor. It simply ain't working as backlash is too huge, and no compensation will fix so. I'll try to make another focuser but now with a lighter motor, as I'm putting too much weight on my mount for no much reason at all- been focusing with this 70mm bathinov mask I had decorating my observatory's walls...

Another thing is that my telescope had pinched optics that came right out of fabbric, since I got it in november 2021, but I was able to resolve this probelm only in January 23. You can find here the topic I've started on cloudy nights on how I fixed my scope pinched optics. (spoiler- I had to use a driller...)

In conclusion, I'm still without the proper equipment to use such huge focal length with a mount equivalent to a star adventurer. Many pieces are still missing, and putting this scope to work as I would like it to will take some time, but hopefully some projects shall come greatly.
