Description

NGC 4565 (aka Caldwell 38) is an edge-on spiral galaxy that is found in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is estimated to be 30-40 million lys from Earth. It is about 140,000 lys in diameter and is estimated to have ~1 trillion stars. By comparison, our Milky Way Galaxy is estimated to have from 100 to 400 billion stars. Astronomers believe the Milky Way looks very similar to NGC 4565 - a "thin" spiral with a central bulge.
