Description

Messier 5 This is Messier 5 or M5 (also designated NGC 5904) is a globular cluster in the constellation Serpens. M5 is visible to the naked eye as a faint “star” 0.37 of a degree (22’ (arcmin)) north-west of star Serpentis. M5 was discovered by German astronomer Gottfried Kirch in 1702 when he was observing a comet. One of the oldest globular clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy. With apparent Magnitude of 6.7 and a location 25,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens. This particular cluster is believed to 13 billion years. Clear skies!
