Description

This Abell PN is located 4000 light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +28 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 PN which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 3 light years.

OIII dominates the signal in this nebula – I didn’t even try to capture the minimal amount of HII present.  The blue progenitor star is clearly visible.  The spherical nebula has a thin rim and shows some texture throughout the inner region.

The white smudge seen at 2 o’clock inside of the nebula is the distant galaxy LEDA 2817010.  It is 1.7 billion light years away and has a diameter of 100,000 light years.  A few more galaxies seem visible through the nebula but I could not confirm them.
