Description

Here is the Tulip Nebula in a moderatly wide field, shot with a refractor at 350mm and f/3.9, and finished in a straight HOO color palette with RGB stars.

This image completes my spring narrowband project and includes 8 nights of imaging from three different locations - home in Bortle 9, at a friend's rural farm in B4, and at Guadalupe Mountains National Park in an amazingly dark Bortle 2.

Most of the Oiii was shot from B2, which made all the difference in this image. As I shoot most of my narrowband projects from home in B9, I was blown away from the strength of the Oiii channel shot from such a dark location.

It took my wife and I about ten hours to drive out there and I was lucky enough to have 4 consecutive clear and moonless nights on our trip. I brought the twin rigs and was able to double up on the data, capturing a total of about 32 hours under dark and pristine skies.
