Description

NGC 772 / Arp 78 is an unbarred spiral galaxy approximately 130 million light-years away in the constellation Aries.

Around 200,000 light years in diameter, NGC 772 is twice the size of the Milky Way Galaxy, and is surrounded by several satellite galaxies – including the dwarf elliptical, NGC 770 – whose tidal forces on the larger galaxy have likely caused the emergence of a single elongated outer spiral arm that is much more developed than the others arms. This is a galaxy I've never heard of before, until I've seen it captured recently by @Michael Feigenbaum, what an amazing image of a very beautiful galaxy. So here's my attempt at it. We've had a couple of clear nights around November's new moon, and my imaging train is still bolted to the EdgeHD, used at native focal length.

I did discover a moving object while blinking, turned out to be Asteroid 51455 (thanks to @Die Launische Diva for the help on identifying it). Here's an attempt at animating it: https://www.astrobin.com/4nc1d9/

Clear skies, and stay safe!
