Description

Here is my attempt at the exciting event of spring 2023. This is the first time I have imaged a supernova; since these rare events are not always accessible with short focal length systems, I am glad I got a chance to visualize this one. I've missed out on a couple of the comet events from the last few years, so it's great to get an event I can see!

It took a week to get any free time to process.....I've never really had much luck in the past with post-processing M101 to get any results I am too happy with. Galaxies are just difficult in my environment with the light pollution and poor seeing, but M101 always seems to be a particular struggle. This image is OK (not my favorite), but - after a couple deleted attempts - it is the best I can do with the data I can collect. Subjectively, as for many of us, I think the light pollution is indeed getting worse over time; I'm going to start calling my backyard Bortle 8 at this point.....
