Description

One of my DSO Astrophotography goals was to take photos of more distant galaxies than the Andromeda Galaxy.  Learning how to use the ASIAIR Plus, re-learn stacking techniques, and learning how to post process has been a steep learning curve.  I got a Starwatcher Az-GTI mount for a portable mount that I can take to see the 2024 Eclipse. I wanted to use it as a test for astrophotography.   While guiding was very very successful (1 to 1.5" arc second guiding even with a setup pushing the weight limits), one of the legs was not fully tightened and my full rig fell to the ground at the end of the night.  I broke my full-spectrum modified Sony A6000 after only owning it for 1 month and lost the flats that I had for that night.  Fortunately I had some darks with the same exposure which I could use, and I processed this image of the M81 Galaxy Group.  I had to do some serious dust removal due to the lack of flats.  You can see Bode's Galaxy and the Cigar Galaxy plus two more galaxies in frame.  On the brightside, my ASIAIR, guiding setup,  mount and Skywatcher ED72 were not damaged so hopefully I will have a replacement soon.
