Description

Behold IC1318, The Sadr Region in the constellation Cygnus (Latin for “swan”)! Like the animal represented by the constellation where it resides, this breathtaking emissions nebula appears both graceful and angelic. However, looks can be deceiving…

Swans are notoriously aggressive during their nesting season and attack people, boats, or anything else which they deem a threat. According to several English newspapers, an infamous swan dubbed “Mr. Asbo” terrorized people and boats on The River Cam in Cambridge from 2009 to 2012, going so far as to capsize a small boat and dive-bomb larger watercraft as well as river goers! Attacks from the antisocial avian menace got so frequent and intense that he and his mate were relocated to an animal sanctuary in 2012.

That would be the end of the story but apparently, in addition to observing human-like customs such as mating for life, swans also subscribe to the English custom of The Changing of the Guard… “Asboy” and “Asbaby” took up the cause not long after Mr. Asbo’s departure!
