Description

For this rendition the comet-only image was generated by running StarNetV2 on each individual sub-frame. I hoped this would reduce the amount of star-streaks in the final result, but unfortunately they still show up with strong histogram stretches. I stacked with sigma clipping to further reduce streaking. My sequence software also got messed up at some point during acquisition and I ended up with only half of the planned green and red subs.

Vincent Peris made an interesting observation regarding color balance in his NEOWISE processing notes: the comet's dust tail is illuminated by our Sun, and we can therefore use a G2V star as white reference for comets. PCC was performed on the stacked star image, and transferred to the comet-only image using LinearFit.

The original image was processed with separate color balance for the stars and comet, plus star reduction.

Exposure: 14/12/29 x 60 sec for R/G/B (55 minutes total)
