Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a low surface brightness face-on spiral galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +14 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 1.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a small diameter of 40,000 light years.

This galaxy structure is fascinating.  It is just a bit too chaotic to be called a grand design spiral – the 2 primary arms share the stage with many blue star clouds, Ha regions and arm fragments.  Perhaps this small spiral is still young and just getting organized, or perhaps there are small dwarf galaxies among the disk causing some interaction, or both.
