Description

This is a narrow 25.8h SHO image of the M16 "Pillars of Creation" with RGB stars using LRGBSHO data from Deep Sky West in Rio Hurtato, Chile collected between August and October 2023.
The Eagle Nebula is part of a diffuse emission nebula, or H II region, with the bright region of active current star formation at about 5700 light-years distance. The "Pillars of Creation" were of course from the famous Hubble image of these star birth regions of the central star cluster in M16.

This image is a crop of the full image of M17 in SHO color mapping with RGB stars posted at:

12/22/23:  Reoriented slightly to vertical pillars, a la Hubble.
