Despite poor weather over the last two months, I have continued to take images of the sky as they cross the median with around 20degrees of the zenith. Others have been amassing data at the South Celestial Pole. Approximately 3% of the sky has been imaged. Not a great deal, but we are hoping many more will participate as we sort out the logistical and mosaicing challenges.

This data was mosaic'ed using PI. It is unlikely that we will use this for the final survey - as we have some promising software being developed. But this image should serve as an example of the depth and quality of the data. The faint RCW114 (The Dragon's Heart) nebula is just visible in this images, and the stellar gradient off the galactic plane looks striking in this image. The dark clouds of Lupus are - perhaps - less impressive, limited by the dynamic range needed to highlight the galactic gradient.

Description: The ABC survey continue to amass fields, with more than 100 fields completed in the Southern Hemisphere (20% of the Southern sky). No rigorous QC or data curation yet, and we are still working on the mosaicing software but good progress with the team currently. This image has been reduced from the survey's 10arcsec/px to 30arcsec/px to be uploaded.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
