Description

Today, June 21st, 2020 saw two astronomical events, summer solstice and a partial solar eclipse. In Okinawa, Japan, the Sun was eclipsed about 80%, but the entire event happened behind clouds. The images were taken during rare intervals with thin clouds but none of them is entirely free of obstruction, making constantly correct exposure as well as well timed image sequences impossible. For this reason I reserve the right to refrain from a description of the seeing condition.

Anyway, it was good to whitness an eclipse for the first time with a planetary camera while the air temperature and daylight brightness perceptibly dropped.

The original (final) image is a mosaic of two single 1.7ms exposures at gain 100 in 8-bit mono with IR-cut filter plus DIY Ø62mm solar filter made with Baader foil.
