Description

Cederblad 111 (CED 111) is a blue reflection region in the southern constellation of Chamaeleon and is part of one of the closest (~550 light years) dark cloud complexes. CED 110 is the white nebula just left of centre showing a distinct arc. Both are part of the Cha I dark cloud complex. The areas of bright blue nebulosity are Hebrig-Haro objects (HH 49-50) arsing from collisions between ionised jets of gas ejected from newly born stars and the surrounding cloud.

The Cederblad Catalogue is a list of mostly reflection nebulae compiled in 1946 by Swedish astronomer Sven Cederblad.

Data for this image was sourced via Telescope Live, and acquired from the El Sauce Observatory in Rio Hurtado, Chile using an FLI ML 16200 camera paired with an Officina Stellare RH200 20cm reflector. I have also started work on a backyard version of the same region but have only acquired RGB so far. Hoping for clear skies during the next southern autumn to complete the project.

Thanks for looking and CS.
