Description

This is my HOO Forax palette image of the Dolphin Nebula (SH2-308) using my William Optics 156mm FLT telescope (focal length with reducer was 1005mm). I took 6hrs of 300s/600s Ha and 10hrs of 300/600 OII subs (Antlia 5nm filters), and I hr of 60s subs for each of Antlia Red, Green and Blue filters to construct the RGB stars (3hrs in total for the stars). The image is only minimally cropped. My objective was to really focus on the underlying Ha structures but in reality, I only achieved partial success as I really did not have sufficient Ha data, and what I had was fairly noisy. I think the stars turned out nicely, and I thank Sasha (View into Space) for the process of putting a luminance mask over the nebula before adding back the stars using PixelMath, this helped minimize the stars taking over the nebula, a good process.
