Description

Since the sun is all I can shoot in the smoky skies around here (and it's really cool to shoot anyway), I set up my 5 inch Astro-Physics refractor for solar work. This scope is special in that Roland ground the objective to be best color-corrected around 540 nm, which is perfect for solar imaging. I used an Astro-Physics 2x Barlow that is custom matched to this scope. I was hoping that despite shooting through thin clouds and smoke, the Astro-Physics scope (quite vintage, by the way) would deliver and it did seem to do a good job. The image here was a stack of the 15 best frames out of 1409 images in a 20 s video taken at 11:40 MDT. Three smaller spots are visible that may indicate further growth of activity in this region.
