Description

Living in southern Louisiana, humidity is a major issue - it's worse here than where I lived in southern Florida. Having started the hobby in January, I have not had to contend with dew until recently as the weather warmed up. A couple weeks ago dew shut me down hard. I ended up purchasing a Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox Advanced (PPBA) and a pair of Dew-Not dew heaters for my imaging and guide scopes. Everything came in yesterday. I hooked up everything, which worked right out of the box. I installed the software for the PPBA so I could see the temperature, dew point, and relative humidity with the sensor that came with the PPBA and also crank the dew heaters to full to test them, since they weren't running when on Auto Dew setting inside the house. I do have a cabling mess to work through, but once I figure out how to mount the PPBA, I will only have a single cable running to my computer instead of three. All in all, I was very happy with the Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox Advanced and the Dew-Not dew heaters. It was bad enough last night that you could feel moisture hitting the skin just walking outside and the Auto Dew setting with the default aggressiveness kept the scopes free of dew in 99% RH without getting too warm. The dew heaters were warm to the touch, but the scope was still cool.

This was only 1 hour and 45 minutes worth of data and seeing conditions weren't the best, but all things considered it was a very successful evening.
