Description

At ~2000 light-years distance, and with a true extent of ~2 light years diameter, this fine planetary nebula lies in a rich star field in Aquila.  The estimate for how long ago the central star "puffed" off its outer layers is on the order of 10,000 years.     Like most planetary nebula, the size is small, being roughly 2 arcminutes x 2.4 arcminutes.  This makes the nebula almost at the effective limit of desirable resolution for the RASA 11.

This image is a crop that attempts to balance the rich star field in the background with as much planetary nebula detail as I could pull from the stack.
