Description

In the high northern regions of the sky are found vast, tenuous clouds of dust and gas called High Galactic Cirrus. These clouds are faintly lit from the integrated light of all the stars in the Milky Way, hence their other common name of Integrated Flux Nebula. Not usually seen in shorter exposures typically used for emission nebulae and galaxies, very long exposures will bring them out of the background. In this view, the two galaxies M 81 and M 82 are greatly over-exposed to make the galactic cirrus visible.
