Description

On the search for a less commonly photographed object, I came across the Lion Nebula (Sh2-132). Thinking if I should try to capture it with a wide-field setup, I chose to image with my SCT at its native focal length of 2000mm. If I'm interpreting the shape of the whole nebula correctly, I've imaged the Lion's head and mane.

The dark nebula close to the left of the image center is designated as LDN 1161 and the area at the top left as LDN 1163.

I was hoping to collect at least 7 to 8 hours for each filter. However, despite having very clear nights with very good seeing, fog regularly arrived after 2am/3am making the telescope to capture two nebulas in a single night.
To compensate for the loss of time, I've chosen to run the camera at 4x4 binning to increase SNR and still I have an image scale of close to 1"pp.

Contrary to my other images, I've employed some star reduction (successfully, I hope) to enhance the effect of the nebula.

As usual, I hope you enjoy and feel free to comment.

Clear skies!

Description: This revision is an SOH color blend. The contributions are R=(90% SII, 0% OIII, 10% Ha), G=(58%SII, 17%OIII, 25%Ha) and B=(0%SII, 44%OIII, 56%Ha). I'm taking the path with PixInsight now. I reworked the image in PI and did some final touch in Affinity Photo.
