Description

The entire Vela Supernova Remnant occupies significantly more telescope fields of view than most deep sky targets. This image covers a small portion of the east side of this vast nebula complex. The hallmark characteristic of this object are the many fine tendrils of glowing, ionized hydrogen and oxygen molecules. Narrowband hydrogen and oxygen filter data was added to the RGB channels to better reveal these features.

Originally imaged three years ago, I wasn't happy with the first result due to gradients I didn't adequately correct and the fine details were a bit soft. As a result, I didn't post the final product. I recently reprocessed using the updated Pixinsight features and add-ons and decided to publish the result.
