Description

M33, the Triangulum Galaxy, unsurprisingly resides in the Triangulum constellation.  Characterized as a spiral galaxy, M33 is the third largest galaxy in the Local Group.  Lots of interesting structure is present, including massive amounts of HII star forming regions that present as magenta structures.  Some of these structures are so prominent that they have landed their own NGC numbers, NGC 588, 592, 595, and 604.  IR studies have been undertaken to quantify the rate of star formation occurring in M33 - equating to around 0.45 solar masses of material per year!

In order to help present the incredibly fine features of this spiral galaxy, the full resolution file has been uploaded.  Zoom around and take a peak, there’s a whole lot to see!  This was our first time only using RGB filters for an image due to an ongoing issue with the luminance frames coming from this scope.
