Description

The Cigar Galaxy (Messier 82) LR(Halpha)GB-Composite with Luminance (ASI 2600MM 30x300sec, -20°C, Baader UV/IR Cut) on 07.03.2024, Halpha (ASI 2600MM 17x600sec, -20°C, Baader Halpha) on 08.03.2024 und RGB (ASI 2600MC: 34x300 sec, -25°C, IDAS LPS-P2) from 12.05.2023; objective: Celestron SC C14.

Messier 82 is is not an easy object. The integration of Halpha presents a special challenge and makes this galaxy unmistakable.

Wikipedia: The galaxy M82 was dramatically altered by its interaction with M81 during a close flyby about 500 million years ago. In the inner region, the rate at which new stars are formed from interstellar matter has increased sharply (starburst). This makes M82 one of the brightest infrared galaxies and one of the brightest galaxies in the radio range (Ursa Major A). As a result of the starburst, supernova explosions produce turbulent gas movement, which is observed as an outflow perpendicular to the galactic plane of M82. Due to its proximity and brightness, M82 is one of the best-studied starburst galaxies.
