A wide field target for my Askar FRA300 which required processing as a two-panel mosaic to encompass the entire area. While many programs exist to combine mosaics, I went the easy route and combined using Microsoft's Image Composite Editor after taking care to process both panels in a similar manner.

The Question Mark Nebula as a whole consists of the larger NGC 7822 star forming complex on the border of Cepheus and Cassiopeia as well as the lower "dot" of the question mark, Sharpless 170 - the "little Rosette nebula" in Cassiopeia. The central brighter region of the emission nebula NGC 7822 (also known as Sharpless 171) contains a young star cluster, Berkeley 59. It is estimated to be some 3000 light years distant with the younger components being just a few million years old. The star BD+66 1673 is one of the hottest stars discovered and is one of the primary illumination sources of the nebula as well as shaping the complex's abundant pillars. Sharpless 170 is an emission nebula about 6000 light years distant. It is being ionized by an extremely hot O-type star at its center.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
